History

The idea of creating an online journal to increase the international visibility of the scientific production of scientists of the then West African Society of Parasitology (Societe Ouest Africaine de Parasitology, SOAP) was seeded at 7th Congress of the Society of Parasitology and Mycology of Republic of Cote d’Ivoire (SIPAM) in 2015 in Abidjan.  Prof. Robert Tinga GUIGUEMDE who was President of SOAP entrusted the late Prof. Ogobara K. DOUMBO with the task of leading the creation process. Prof. Doumbo appointed Prof. Abdoulaye DJIMDE to drive the initiative forward and oversaw the initial steps until his untimely passing away on June 9th, 2018. SOAP later went Panafrican to become the African Society for Parasitology (Société Africaine de Parasitology, SoAP).

Focus

The name “African Journal of Parasitology, Mycology and Entomology (AJPME)” was agreed upon at the 9th Congress of SoAP in Cotonou in December 2018 where a group of 6 volunteers decided to join Prof. Djimde in managing the Journal’s creation process. A crowdfunding from members of the SoAP raised the initial funds of the Journal. The headquarters of the journal is the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) at the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB, Bamako, Mali).

The objective of AJPME is to bring African Parasitology, Mycology and Entomology to International light. In particular, the Journal aims at sharply increasing the visibility of the science produced by the grossly under-represented French speaking African scientists.

To reach these goals, we receive manuscripts in French or in English, peer review them in the submission language but publish the peer reviewed and accepted version in English.
